8.4
some really ugly flash
From Germany
Bad flash web design: Freizeitparkherne.de

A website for a leisure time park in Germany. It seems they don't know it yet in Germany, but flash is dead. Killed by Steve Jobs and one of a few things he did right I guess. So, if you look at this some with some kind of Apple device you won't see anything. Even with other devices, chances are you won't see a thing. For those of us not speaking German: to get past the horrible intro you've got to click on 'Intro Überspringen'.

Some surfing suggestions: click on 'miniauto' to hear the horn of a car and to see a flying seagull which isn't that interested in this website. The coolest effect is situated under 'Rutsche'. The seagull at the Karussel seems to be a bit more interested in the site, although she's got a bit of a puzzled look.

2 Dogetech Group

Best views in 1024 x 768 px

Bad flash web design Dogetech

Dogetech Group is a company in Taiwan that manufactures Textile Machines. And they have a terrible flash website. Really awful. This website is a real find. As bad websites go, this is on a level of its own. Some horrible flash design. The about page is a horrible mess and completely unreadable. The site is too small for todays screen sizes and is butt ugly.

But the real winner on this site is the flash intro. If you can, you really should enable flash on this site and listen to the intro music. Put it really loud to let it immerse you completely. But watch out if you're an epileptic, the flashing lights could give you a seizure. No, really, watch out.

3 Industrial Painter

7.6
let us paint ourselves

Who was it that said that flash was dead? Not Industrialpainter.com. When you thought you had seen all there is about flash intro's this website gives you even a bit more.

The time when every website had an intro like this is far behind us, but at Industrial painter even the flash intro has its own flash intro. Too bad for the designer of this website nobody wants a flash site anymore. Because he is a real flash wizard. The hover effect on the first 'ENTER' button is a real beauty.

4 Berkshire Hathaway inc.

5.6
Official Home Page
Ugly corporate websites: Berkshire Hathaway inc.

Official website of holding company Berkshire Hathaway Inc. with an endearing  message from Warren E. Buffett himself trying to sell us insurances. And, it seems, trying to save a buck by having the simplest of websites. Not that ugly, maybe but scarcely any design at all. More undesigned than badly designed.

The message here is of course that no money is being wasted on unnecessary things. To me, it's a bit obscene really.

5 Dorothy W. Farnath & Associates, Inc.

5.2
strive to exceed expectation
Ugliest websites ever - Farnath

Dorothy W. Farnath & Associates, Inc. is a certified women-owned business (WBE) founded in 1988 that specializes in contingency and retained recruitment for the clinical and biotech laboratory industries throughout the U.S. And they seem to consider themselves the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to recruiting. And in doing so they break one of the most important rules in design and web design in particular: don't ever us pieces of a puzzle as a design element. It's corny and more often than not it's ugly. And don't use auburn as the main color for your website unless your selling hair dye, and even then.

Maybe it's something personal but to me this is a really ugly site. The pictures, the colors, the fonts used, the custom FB icons etc., they all cry out 'wrong' to me. 'Warm colors', always a risk.

6 Chrostiki SA

4.7
The leader on colour
From Greece
Bad web pages: Chrostiki

Chrostiki SA is a company in Greece that sells color products and offers a printing service.  They also have a website that is not a great example of modern web design. First of it's too small. The colors of the website aren't that great neither for a company selling paints and the like. Thirdly, and this is some really bad web design, they use images instead of real text. For navigational items the images used are really tiny and practically unreadable.

Unbelievable but true: the whole sitemap page consists of one GIF image. The links are defined as coördinates on this map. The problem is that on todays screens the text on the GIF is so small you can barely read it, let alone click on it.

7 Gorwood Systems

4.7
Gorwood is more than just a great image
Gorwood Systems - an ugly site

As ugly corporate websites go this is a beauty. Especially for a tech site. Must be at least 10 years old and a bit of a disgrace for what seems to be a big company. Also very ugly colors, red, blue and black, and a horizontal width of 640 pixels or so, which was the way to go more than ten years ago, but now it results in the site being a small rectangle on most desktop screens. A mobile first approach ten years ago already?

This site has almost no content so a redesign shouldn't cost too much. Come on Gorwood Systems, go for it and enter the 21th century.

8 Chipmunk International

4.2
here some pictures of ... well a squirrel, not a chipmunk
Chipmunk

Chipmunk International does repairs of Macintosh computers and data recovery. The latest news item on this site dates back to 2004, which could be about right when guessing the age of the site, though it probably dates back to 2000. Still, that's not an excuse. Dreams of the past, that is what this site screams to me. I wonder if they are still in business, and if not, why haven't they deleted this site. The dream of having a real company. Still, an ugly site with terrible navigation and the squirrel (or was it a chipmunk?) page is really something you shouldn't leave on there. A bit over four points, and maybe that's being nice.

Really nice explanation of the 'photos of chipmunks page': "Here some nice photos of... Well, not chipmunks, but squirrels. At the time we took these photos, winter, the chipmunk was hibernating. Still, we thought it was a nice idea to put these pictures on the internet. If you click on a picture you get the whole picture which you can print." Haha (well, it's a bit funny, no?). If they are still in business, why not update this site. It's beyond me.

On the face of it it has a 'corporate' look, as suggested by the name, but we wouldn't be surprised if this was a one man operation. Still, it's included in the category 'corporate websites', just for trying. Another site by Chipmunk International which could be it's own entry on ugliestsitesitesintheworld.com is www.30bars.com : " We are specialized in making barcodes in the form of .eps (postscript) files." And another one is: www.tomtit.info: funny physics by Tom Tit (yes, "tit"!).

9 Urbex Engineering Ltd.

4.1
going strong since 2004
From Canada
worst websites ever urbex

Urbex Engineering Ltd. is a General Contractor, Project Manager, Consulting Engineer, and Manager of Land Development in Hamilton, Canada. They may know a lot about engineering and stuff, but they have no clue about websites and why you should want one. Some of the pages in the main navigation on this site have had a little 'under construction' image on them since the site was created back in 2004. And some of the other pages have almost no text on them at all.

The screen size of the site is so small that it is optimized for mobile since 2004. On the other hand, this means it isn't optimized for desktop anymore really. Why a firm this size doesn't spend a little bit of its budget on their website is beyond me. And even if you don't want to spend anything on your site, maybe put a little content on there.

And like that, we have a website from the proud country of Canada on our site.

10 Voila! Juice Company

3.9
Voila! Juices that taste good
Bad web design: Voila! juices

Website for the Voila! Juice Company from sunny California. Created in flash back in 2010. Maybe flash wasn't quite dead then jet, but it certainly is dead now. Anyone visiting this site with a mobile probably won't see that much of the lovely animation on the homepage. It's lovely but it isn't informative or anything. A website that shows you something like that, lovely as it may be, is a website which hasn't got anything interesting to say. A website without a cause, or something like that. I"m not sure why it takes this long to load completely. It has virtually no content and only four pages. The most interesting piece of information is maybe the catalog and that is a link to a pdf. Priorities got a bit mixed up here.

The website isn't that ugly, apart from the colors maybe, but it is a very good example of bad web design. And that's what earns it its place here. It's difficult to create a good website when you don't have a clue as to why you should have one.
